WHAT WE DO

Homes for the Holidays (HFTH) is the flagship program of Warrick Dunn Charities, Inc. Housing is the key to reducing generational poverty and increasing economic mobility. Moreover, according to research completed by Stanford, children living in stable, affordable homes are more likely to thrive in school and have greater opportunities to learn inside and outside the classroom. Warrick Dunn Charities, Inc, helps to break the cycle of generational poverty by providing a hand-up – not a handout – to single parents and their children. We surprise single parent families (who are actively working to support themselves) with home furnishings and down payment assistance.

In short, with the help of donations from our sponsors and individuals like you, we work with local partners to turn houses into homes for single parent families.

“I can’t say enough how the stability has helped me provide for me and my 3 daughters. Being able to give them a home to call their own is everything to me. I was able to show them that they can have anything in life that they want as long as they work hard for it.” – Kevin Hargrove, #122

“From toothbrushes to lawnmowers, your generosity is used to make a house a HOME for those in need.”

Your donations ensure that when our families move in, their new house is fully furnished (everything from beds to lawnmowers to toothbrushes) and the pantry is full. They even allow us to help cover the downpayment.

HOW WE DO IT

Step 1:

We receive donations year-round from our partners and donors like you who want to support our mission of providing hope for single parent families in need.

Step 2:

We work with local, affordable housing providers to select a single parent family who is purchasing their first home. We do not supply the new home, but we help supply the new home’s furnishings.

Step 3:

With the assistance of volunteers, we furnish and decorate every room, stock the pantry with food, and provide a downpayment assistance check as a surprise for the new homeowner.

Support from our corporate and community partners is a critical part of ensuring that Warrick Dunn Charities, Inc. has the financial resources to empower families to break the cycle of generational poverty and create a better quality of life for all. If your organization is interested in being a part of this life changing mission, please contact us!.

WHY WE DO IT

Warrick Dunn’s late mother, Betty Smothers, was a single parent who worked tirelessly to achieve the American dream of owning her own home.

As a tribute to her, Warrick established Homes for the Holidays in 1997 to help make home ownership a dream come true for single parent families.

Today, 227 families have been served.
